SpecialtyHealth Fit For Retirement Wellness Program

Overview

FitForRetirement is a program presented to Nevada’s first responders by SpecialtyHealth & Wellness and POOL/PACT. Sworn full-time first responders receive this FREE benefit through their membership to Nevada POOL/PACT. This program is designed to help first responders optimize wellness and prep them to be fit for retirement.

All individual Full-time, Paid Public Safety Officers and Firefighters are eligible to participate in the SpecialtyHealth Wellness Program, if they work for a PACT insured agency.

Having access to the most knowledgeable Health and Wellness team, the most current up-to-date testing and not having to pay anything out of pocket. NRS 616.455-457 allows all worker’s compensation carriers to deny a heart/lung claim when an employee who has the ability to do so, fails to correct predisposing conditions when ordered to do so by the examining physician. If SpecialtyHealth’s records show the employee was actively participating in the Fit For Retirement program in the two years preceding the date of injury, while not a statutory requirement, PACT will nevertheless consider active participation as evidence of fulfilling the order to correct requirements in the event of a claim.

The SpecialtyHealth Wellness Program is a continuing program. Each year we ask if you want to continue to participate and ask that you complete a current Health Risk Assessment (HRA). The HRA gives us authorization to “treat” you under the Wellness Program by our Wellness team.

Active Participation gives you access to advance testing, blood tests, to our clinical and coaching staff. We are responsible to set up appointments with you throughout the year and to monitor your progress. Follow up testing and coaching appointment are based on our initial assessments and your goals.

An “actively participating employee”
  1. provides annual heart/lung physical and lab work to SH;
  2. completes the HRA annually;
  3. provides authorization to SH to work with the employee’s primary care provider in addressing the employee’s Wellness Health Plan; and
  4. participates in good faith to correct identified health risk(s).

No, the SpecialtyHealth Wellness Program is HIPPA compliant and completely confidential utilizing secure databases. In order for SpecialtyHealth or any other medical provider to release medical information, the individual participant must sign a release of information before any medical information collected as part of the Wellness program is shared with anyone. In fact, your Authorization to participate in the program states: “SpecialtyHealth will not disclose my medical information to any person or entity unless I specifically authorize such disclosure in writing or SpecialtyHealth is required by law to make such disclosure.”

No, the program is provided to all PACT full-time, paid Public Safety Officers and Firefighters as an added benefit, separate and apart from the Annual Physical. The Wellness Program provides a comprehensive approach to Health and Wellness utilizing the most current testing, nutrition, fitness, and clinical staff customized to an individual’s needs.

Every claim is fact dependent. Workers Compensation claims determinations are based upon the medical evidence from any medical provider who has records that may relate to the injury, whether it is the annual physical examination records, the employee’s own personal physician’s records, or information that a medical provider, like SpecialtyHealth, must provide by law.

NO. SpecialtyHealth, is prohibited by law to provide an employee’s confidential medical information to PACT or anybody else unless the employee authorizes SpecialtyHealth to do so, or it is required by law to do so.

The Wellness Program is separate and apart from the Annual Physical. It was designed to give PACT full-time paid Public Safety Officers and Firefighters a comprehensive Wellness program as a benefit to assist in any identified health conditions. The program is not part of the Heart Lung statutes. We have no authority to approve, deny or order you to correct any health issues we may find as a result of the Wellness Program.

The HRA gives SpecialtyHealth’s clinical and coaching team authorization to treat you under the SpecialtyHealth Fit For Retirement Wellness Program: to order labs, do advance testing, to prescribe medications, and develop individual wellness plans.

You can opt out of the program at any time. We ask that you tell us that you no longer want to participate so we can make sure we don’t bother you with calls and e-mails.

Yes, we welcome spouses and children. PACT does not pay for your dependent. However, we can work with their health insurance carrier to determine what program benefits are available. They are also welcome to attend your appointments to gain a better understanding of your goals as well as review the wellness, exercise, and nutrition information provided to you.
